I was gifted a product from the Macy’s Heart of Haiti line however all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. Please see disclosure policy for full disclaimer.
Making a difference has always been something my parents instilled in myself. My father is 100% Dominican which makes myself at least 50%. Dominican Republic is close by to Haiti. When the hurricane hit in 2010 it devastated even parts of Dominican Republic. Many Dominicans also reside in Haiti since they are so close in proximity. Then in college in 2012 I would find out my roommate was Haitian. She would tell me stories about how things were but also how bad things have gotten since the hurricane. How certain parts of the country weren’t even picked up yet. She would also explain to me how great of a country Haiti was before the hurricane. How artistic the country was made to be.
This made me incredibly sad. Knowing how much in despair young men and women were in by living in a country so full of art and richness. Also, having to live in a third world country where it may feel impossible to see your home improve.
In effect of the hurricane Macy’s has become a huge part of helping the Haitian community. They sell handcrafted items which are available on their website Macy’s and select stores. Haiti has an estimated 400,000 artisans (out of a 10M population) who rely solely on their handcrafted goods as a source of income. No other sector of employment even approaches such numbers. During the holidays this helps the country as whole. By, Macy’s serving Haiti they are able to help them reconstruct their country as whole. In Haiti, the average daily income is around $1.00 a day. Just like small businesses purchasing from Macy’s Heart of Haiti line you get to help Haiti as well as their communities. They are able to work doing what they love. You also encourage others to continue with work they love to do.
By others purchasing from this line they are able to help make a difference. The best part, they can purchase the line at their local Macy’s store or even their website.
This heart makes a great home decor item. You can use it as a paper weight, home decor item or even an item for taking pictures. This heart has a great gold foil which goes with almost anything. Adding this heart to your living room or bed room makes a great home item and even Christmas present.
Happy Holidays and purchase for a great cause.

This is a great cause. I can’t imagine the suffering the people of Haiti have gone through. I’m also baffled by the low wages. I will be visiting Macys.com to buy one of these beautifully crafted ornaments to add to my tree.

Erin_ForTheLoveofCrustEven though our country’s cost of living can be unimaginable I just sit back and think how do they do it. Thank you for reading.

I have collaborated with this initiative in the past. It’s heartbreaking how little they go without. I love that Macy’s is giving back in this way.
Jalisa
toughcookiemommyI know. It’s so saddening just in general what they make an hour. Then having to rebuild their country is so heartbreaking.
