For many kids, Spring means being outdoors for the first time in a while. It’s officially April which means Spring and the weather that comes with it is here. It’s time for great weather, time for more play outdoors and just being more active. It’s also a great time to start getting more active as a family and burning all that energy.
There is much more room outdoors than we are used to since we moved onto almost two acres of land. We’ve basically been stuck indoors since we moved; snowing one day or having a massive front; it’s been hard to get outdoors. Once the warmer weather hits, it’s a great time to get out and enjoy that fresh air. Plus having a hyperactive child, being outdoors is the best thing for him. As a family always on the go A always craves outside time. Here are a few ways to get your child active for the Spring.
5 ways to get your child active this Spring
1.Start gardening together:
Growing your own fruits and vegetables is a great way to encourage kids (and adults) to eat healthier while also spending time doing an activity together. It requires being outdoors,so you have no other choice than to get outside and more active.
2. Play tag
A loves this. Since we have much more land and it’s a long way to the main we can literally play tag for hours in his mind. He gets to run around looking for somewhere to hide out.
3. Limit screen time:
Although screen time does help with his focus, it can also damper other activities. This is when I either lock away our tablet or won’t charge it until it is time to go outdoors. Therefore, he has no choice but to have some active time. Plus, the imagination of a five-year-old can be just as amazing as what they see on a screen.
4. Muddy Puddles:
What kid doesn’t like jumping in muddy puddles? Plus, April is full of showers, so we hope. Since they are only required to be outdoors; this is a great item to have if you can. Who wouldn’t want to jump all day? Especially a kid. I’m sure they will be craving to go outdoors even when it’s rainy.
5. Snack time outdoors:
Stonyfield® OrganicKids® is a great and simple way to have snack time outdoors. Stonyfield Organic Snack Packs come with strawberry, vanilla and even chocolate flavored yogurt and include pretzels, graham crackers or cookies for dipping.
You can stand or sit while enjoying this snack. Plus it doesn’t take long to eat and doesn’t require a spoon which is great for A. They come already packaged and all you do is pull down and voila; they are ready to eat.
Plus, Stonyfield® Organic Kids® is USDA Organic & Non-GMO project verified. They are delicious and contains 35% less sugar than other leading kids’ brands, also a great source of Vitamin D and has no artificial colors or flavors.
We love having these and staying active when the warmer weather hits. It’s a great time to drive out all that built up energy
Why Stonyfield?
Stonyfield is a company that’s dedicated to changing the way we eat and the way we live, with an eye on making the planet and the place our kids play healthier.
Stonyfield announced a three-year initiative to help 35 communities across the country convert outdoor playing fields and parks to organic, while also igniting a larger movement to ensure that all kids can play freely without the concern of potentially harmful chemicals.
- Over 26 million kids play on public grounds, 65% of which are managed using a combination of herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
- That’s why it’s so important that they’re playing on organic fields, without the worry of toxic persistent pesticides or other harmful chemicals
To help celebrate Earth Month; Stonyfield is working to make the places where kids play healthier too by working with communities to stop the use of harmful pesticides on parks and playing fields. Learn more at http://bit.ly/2Y837t1.

These are great ways to get outside and enjoy active time together. I especially love the idea of gardening together and limiting screen time. The outdoors has more to offer than any screen!

I am planning on starting a garden with my boys next spring, and can’t wait! We have been planting lots of flowers though, and it has been so much fun! Their favorite part is watering them, lol!

Gardening is a great idea! It’s such a fun way to get kids outside AND excited about eating their vegetables.

I have days where I just pretty much literally throw the kids outside and say I don’t care what you do out here as long as you don’t kill each other, yourselves, or the dogs. Most of the time it’s fine since they love playing outside, but some days, Mama’s gotta put her foot down and say that they need to get out of my hair!

Great ideas! Kids these days definitely don’t spend enough time outside! I remember when my brother & I got home from school when we were younger, we headed straight outside! Now kids just want to sit in front of a screen. So I love the encouragement to get up & get moving!
